The Mercies: Between Church and State - evolution of its normative discipline between 2009 and 2015

On the past 10th of December, an open lecture was given by the Counselor Almeida Lopes, former Judge Counselor of the Supreme Administrative Court and current Vice-President of the Portuguese Association of Canonists, on the theme “The Misericordies: between Church and State - evolution of its regulatory discipline between 2009 and 2015”. Throughout the exhibition, the historical origin of the mercies, the respective canonical regime and its protection by the civil power were explored.
 
Moderation was in charge of Prof. Doctor Paulo Pulido Adragão, Associate Professor at FDUP; the presentation to the Prof. Doctor João Pacheco de Amorim, Assistant Professor at FDUP. The event resulted from a joint organization of the Seminar “Law, Religion and Society”, curricular unit of the Fundamental Rights course of the Master of Law at FDUP and the Libertas Religionis / CIJ Study Group.
